Special information signs would be placed in key places in the capital. They will carry an information about famous people and events from Bulgarian history, after whom streets and boulevards in Sofia are named. This is a pilot project for the country, and the placing of the signs will start within a month thanks to a donation in the amount of 22 000 leva made by the leading company for the distribution of consumer goods in our country "Avendi", part of VM Finance Group AD.
This became clear today at a meeting in the Sofia Municipality between the Mayor Yordanka Fandakova and Alexandra Mirtcheva, a member of the Board of Directors of VM Finance Group. Deputy Mayor of Sofia Municipality Dr. Todor Chobanov and Vili Lilkov, member of the Municipal Council also attended the meeting. The pilot project includes 50 streets at the city centre, including Vasil Levski Blvd., Skobelev Blvd., Aksakov St., August 11 St. and many others. At the donor's request, the information signs will include Bulgarian and English translation and will provide information about the historical person or event that is related to the name of the street.
The goal is to remind the citizens and the tourists of historically significant facts about the country. The practice of putting up such information signs has long been established in other places around the world. By standing behind this initiative the company "Avendi" expresses its support for Sofia's candidacy for the European capital of culture in 2019 and empathy for projects related to sustainability and long-term development. At the end of today's meeting, Mayor Yordanka Fandakova thanked on behalf of the municipality and the citizens of Sofia for the financing of the landmark project and presented a Certificate of Donation to Alexandra Mirtcheva.
